Idle Speculation

If your vehicle idles roughly, hesitates, and/or stalls, there may be a problem with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. This component recirculates a small amount of exhaust gas back into your combustion chamber, where it is reused in efforts to increase engine efficiency and reduce pollution. If a mechanical EGT is stuck open, it will cause a vacuum leak that will lead to inefficient combustion. This is due to the fact that the engine’s combustion chambers will be flooded with exhaust gases and less-needed atmospheric oxygen. If the EGR valve is stuck closed, emissions of nitrogen oxides will rise and the vehicle may begin to “Knock”. Either way, cleaning or replacement of the valve may solve the problem.

You can trust the ASE-certified technicians at our shop to find out what the problem is with your vehicle and to fix it promptly and efficiently. Whether it’s idling roughly, or just needs annual maintenance, we welcome you to try out our clean and friendly facility. We hope the job we do will inspire you to become a regular customer. We offer a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty. Call 952-473-4848 to make an appointment, or viit our shop at 2220 Daniel Street, Long Lake.

Hint: Because an electronic EGR valve uses electronics to regulate function and is more complex than a mechanical EGR valve, it may simply require replacement in the event of failure.
